About Jennie Huling
Jennie Huling ’17 was able to work full time while she was a student in the M.A. in Community Psychology program at Russell Sage. Today, she utilizes her degree as co-project manager, director of operations, community engagement, and client services for Albany LEAD (Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion) for Trinity Alliance of the Capital Region. We caught up with her recently.
What was most beneficial about your Sage experience when you were a student?
I truly appreciated the flexibility that allowed me to take classes during nights and weekends while I worked full time. I would not have had to opportunity to go to grad school if I had to quit or change my job in order to do so.
How have you utilized what you learned at Sage in your career? Did it prepare you for your field?
I routinely rely on my Community Psychology classes in my work. I have been able to train other professionals, develop curriculums, and implement programs due in part to the strong foundation and knowledge I gained in the program. I have found that people respect the program itself, and that I have a real understanding of the terminology and philosophies needed to be successful in this field.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
I always say that my job mostly involves thinking, as a program planner and implementer. I enjoy working to see many sides of a problem and developing creative solutions in a collaborative way. I also enjoy being able to work across systems, hearing varied perspectives and challenges.
