About Dylan Farnan
During his high school career, Dylan Farnan knew he wanted to pursue a career in the field of nutrition and dietetics. That’s why he went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition and maintained a career goal to further his education and obtain his Registered Dietitian credential.
However, Dylan was uncertain which institution to attend to obtain his advanced degree. His uncertainty soon faded after he attended an open house at Sage and met Michelle Morgan MS, RDN, CDN, the director of the Dietetic Internship program and Dorian Longton MS, RD, CDN, the program coordinator.
“I connected with them,” Dylan says. “They really seemed to care about their students. I could tell they were with them every step of the way. It was as if they were doing the program right along with their students.”
That certainly turned out to be the case with him. “I remember times when the anxiety would build,” he says, “when things seemed pretty daunting, and they were always available to address any questions or concerns and put my mind at ease. “
Dylan describes the Dietetic Internship program as intense but designed to ensure students are fully prepared to succeed.
The program is structured in a way that provides students with the opportunity to intern in a variety of settings, including, but not limited to, hospitals, schools, nursing homes and food service organizations. This exposure grants ample opportunities to experience the many avenues a career in nutrition may lead.
Upon graduation, Dylan found employment with the help of staff from Sage’s program. He is currently employed at the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) in Hudson Falls, New York. The program serves to safeguard the health of low-income pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women, infants and children up to age five.
“I love this program and working with this population,” Dylan says.
When asked about the strengths of Sage’s Dietetic Internship program, Dylan outlines two main factors:
“First, Michelle and Dorian. They’re there to guide you and ensure success. And second, the connections Sage has within the surrounding community are invaluable. They stretch from Glens Falls in the north down to Kingston to the south, and around the Capital Region. They’ll find a place for you that’s a good fit.”
