Menopause is an understudied, misunderstood, and misrepresented mid-life change for women that can leave them frustrated and desperate for information on what they’re experiencing.

On April 23 from 2 to 3:30 p.m., women’s health, nutrition, and physical therapy experts will provide valuable information on this life stage and what can help women move through it at “The Perimenopause Playbook: Navigating the Transition and Beyond,” the annual Russell Sage College Nutrition Lecture sponsored by CDPHP and Thrive@Russell Sage.

From gut health to mental health, heart disease to bone density, sleep quality to weight changes, female hormones have a powerful impact on overall wellbeing. This panel of experts will unpack this issue and discuss the unique ways dietary intake and physical activity can improve female health across the lifespan.

The panel discussion, with time for questions from the audience, will be held in Bush Memorial Hall on Russell Sage College’s Troy campus, at First and Congress streets in Troy, New York, and will be livestreamed on the Russell Sage College YouTube Channel. It is free and open to the public but online registration is requested for those attending in person.

The talk will be emceed by Lara Bryn, anchor and health reporter for CBS6.

The panelists include:

  • Dr. Leslie Saltzman, chief product officer at Ovia Health and medical discipline director, Consumer Health, Labcorp: With more than 15 years of experience in clinical and business technology, Dr. Saltzman brings a wealth of expertise to her roles. A board-certified physician specializing in internal medicine, Dr. Saltzman continues to practice medicine. Her career began with founding a primary care practice exclusively for women, integrating internal medicine, gynecology, psychology, and nutrition. Beyond her clinical work, she has held leadership roles in early-stage health technology companies, leveraging clinical data to create innovative products that enhance patient care and support clinical research.
  • Dr. Sonya Hauser, associate professor, department chair, and the graduate program director for Nutrition at Russell Sage College: Dr. Hauser holds a Ph.D. in Food Policy and Applied Nutrition, and her work focuses on community-based participatory action approaches.
