Dr. Jermaine “Jay” Privott, executive director of the Arthur O. Eve Higher Education Opportunity Program at Russell Sage College, presented on a panel titled “Modeling Collaborative Student Success Coaching” at the Southern Regional Education Board’s Student Success Summit, held in Atlanta, September 13-15, 2023.
The annual summit highlights the importance of college student success and offers strategies to help universities improve success rates. Privott shared best practices from his work at Russell Sage, where he has led HEOP and related initiatives that drive student engagement, retention, and persistence through graduation for 15 years.
HEOP is a partnership between Sage and the New York State Education Department. It provides financial assistance, counseling, tutoring, advising and other support services to students who would otherwise not be able to attend college.
Student success coaching is central to the work of HEOP, and it is now part of The Gator Gateway, the undergraduate success program in which all Russell Sage students participate.
“I was super-excited to share all we are doing at Sage at the Student Success Summit and to learn from colleagues and students working toward access, opportunity, and affordability in higher education,” Privott said.
