Established in 2014 by SGS faculty to recognize Terry Cannizzaro’s commitment and strength of courage in pursuing his MBA degree.

Linda Thomas Franklin RSC ’78 Scholarship in Nursing Fund
Funded annually by Xavier Thomas, III, in memory of his sister for a female nursing student who is a minority.

Dawn Lafferty Hochsprung Center for the Promotion of Mental Health and School Safety Fund
Established in 2012 in memory of Dawn Lafferty Hochsprung, the principal of Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT, and a member of Sage’s doctoral program in Educational Leadership.

Casey Lynch Book Award Fund
Established in 2015 in memory of Casey R. Lynch, to recognize his commitment in pursuing the Bachelor in Business Administration degree at Sage College of Albany.

Opalka Family Scholarship Fund
Annually funded by Trustee Chet Opalka and Karen Opalka for RSC elementary education and SCA art students.

Opalka Gallery Fund
Established in honor of the 10th anniversary of the Opalka Gallery and its first director, Jim Richard Wilson. This provides valuable programming funds to the gallery.

Student Book Fund
Established in 2018 to address students’ needs for books, access codes, supplies, etc.

Tribute Garden
This fund was established by Sage to offer an opportunity to honor or memorialize a loved one through the purchase of nameplates on a plaque in the Tribute Garden on either campus.

Ackerman Award Fund
Established by Trustee Albert C. Ackerman for the Ackerman Award for Academic Achievement, the Theresa Ackerman Memorial Award for Academic Achievement and the Helen Ackerman Award in Nursing.

Olga Andruskiw Award Fund
Established in 1985 by Nursing Department Chair, Dr. Olga Andruskiw from money she received upon her retirement. The award is presented to a senior nursing student who is a leader and a scholar and is qualified to study on a graduate level.

American Society of Women Accountants Business Department Prize Fund
Established by the American Society of Women Accountants, this award is presented to the graduating woman showing the most promise in accounting.

Susan Warren Beatty Faculty Award for Excellence in Research Fund
Established in 2016 by Provost Susan Beatty to reward outstanding faculty research.

Bellevue Hospital Nursing Achievement Award Fund
Established in 1987 by Dr. Grace Jorgensen RSC ’50 in honor of Bellevue Hospital, which her mother founded. The award is presented to nursing students who demonstrate academic and personal excellence, interest in women’s health, promise of contributing to health-related professions, and interest in working cooperatively.

Bhatt Award Fund
Established in 1980 in memory of Sage faculty member Banshi “Ben” Bhatt for an outstanding senior majoring in biology with preference to the student with the highest grade point average.

Johnny F. Black, Jr. SCA ’04 Award Fund
Established in 2004 by Shelly Goldman Black in honor of her husband, Johnny F. Black, Jr. SCA ’04. It is awarded annually to a Sage College of Albany student enrolled in the Computer Network and Systems Administration major who has shown superior coursework.

Chemistry Majors Class of 1965 Award Fund Given in Memory of Grace I. Van Dervoort
Given annually since 1966 and endowed by the Class of 1965 donors in 1993 for up two students a year, in any major, who have completed at least two courses in chemistry at or above the 200 level and who shows excellence in their work.

Cogswell Award Fund
Established in 1985 by Arnold Cogswell for a rising senior who has made a significant impact on the quality of life at Sage and to the Sage community.

Gertrude Slocum Collins RSC ’20 Nutrition Award Fund
Established through a bequest in 2016 by the Estate of Dorothy Knepper RSC ’47 to be used to establish the Dorothy Slocum RSC ’21 Sociology Award Fund and the Gertrude Slocum Collins RSC ’20 Nutrition Award Fund in memory of her mother Gertrude, and her aunt Dorothy.

Marion Eldon Dollard Prize Fund
Established by Marion Eldon Dollard RSC ’20 for a rising senior who demonstrates the greatest potential for achievement in the field of business.

Virginia Earles Research Award Fund
Named for former faculty member Dr. Virginia Earles and awarded to graduate nursing students for research which contributes to advancing the science of nursing.

Tara M. Espinosa, RSC ’01, SGS ’02 Memorial Award for Outstanding Graduate in Occupational Therapy Fund
Established in 2004 by Ruth G. Espinosa-Barone in loving memory of her daughter Tara RSC ’01, SGS ’02 who passed away from EDS, a rare disease. The award is given annually to an occupational therapy student based on GPA, investment in the occupational therapy program and occupational therapy field, initiatives and enthusiasm displayed, and class leadership.

Evans Award for Leadership Fund
Awarded annually by Trustee Edwin C. Evans and then his wife, Renette Evans, the award was endowed in 2000 for a sophomore showing leadership qualities.

Ruth C. Eyres Award for Excellence in Marketing and Management Fund
Established in 1989 by faculty member Ruth C. Eyres for excellence in any business area.

Kathryn Gale Award in Music Fund
Originally given each year by Alfred Gale in memory of his youngest sister, Kathryn, and endowed in 2000 by his daughter, Miss Jane Gale RSC ’48 for individuals showing superior work in music.

Martin J. Gieschen Fund for SCA Art Students
Established by Ann E. Gieschen, widow of Fine Arts Department Chair Martin J. Gieschen, for the purchase of books and art supplies for first-year or second-year art students at SCA who demonstrate financial need and dedication to his/her work.

Louis H. Gross Award in Physical Therapy Fund
Established by Louis H. Gross for an outstanding Sage senior who has been accepted into Sage’s graduate Physical Therapy program.

Gut Endowed Chemistry Award Fund
Established in 2012 by Ann Colton Gut RSC ’50 to provide professional development funds to faculty in the Chemistry and Biochemistry departments.

Kathleen Harrington Memorial Award Fund
Established by John Curran and his son Mark in memory of his cousin Kathleen Harrington RSC ’70 who died of cancer in 1992. Kathleen was a pioneer in many ways and, having developed Hodgkin’s disease while at college, allowed herself to be a guinea pig for new treatments for the disease. It is awarded to undergraduate students intending to complete graduate studies in physical therapy, with preference to students from Troy or Rensselaer County who demonstrate commitment to health and wellness, a love of running, a strong motivation for professional practice in the area of work hardening, sports medicine or physical therapy practice in acute care settings.

Arnold S. Harris Award Fund
Established in 1990 by the Department of Political Science and Public Administration in memory of faculty member Arnold S. Harris for his commitment to Sage students and his outstanding service to Troy. It is awarded to either political science or public administration majors who show a particular interest in state or local government.

Frances P. Healy Award Fund
Established in 1993 by former Sage Graduate Schools Dean Connie Frazer to honor Professor Emerita Frances P. Healy who taught education at Sage from 1969 through 1988. Awarded to elementary education students who show the greatest progress in personal maturity, academic accomplishment, or ability to apply theory to practice in an early childhood or elementary school setting.

June Joyce Herron Award Fund
Established in 1984 by Stephen K. Wanamaker, Esq., P.E., in memory of June Joyce Herron RSC ’52 whom he dated while he was attending RPI and is for a senior who achieves excellence in English.

Gertrude E. Hodgman Prize Fund
Established in 1978 by former students of Gertrude E. Hodgman, former director of the School of Nursing for senior nursing students who demonstrate active involvement in college or community affairs and display professional growth.

Hoffman Prize and Lecture Fund
Established in 1979 by Linda Rosenfield Hoffman RSC ’62 and her husband Peter to provide an award in sociology, an award in sociology for pre-social work, and a lecture series.

M. Grace Jorgensen Nursing Achievement Award Fund
Established in 1987 by Grace Jorgensen RSC ’50 in memory of her mother M. Grace Jorgensen, to support grants to outstanding nursing students for travel to support learning, academic programs, acquisition of learning materials or equipment and support for living expenses incurred during the period of the grant.

Karp Award Fund
Established to honor Hannah Karp and presented to outstanding students in a graduate nursing program.

Luffman Prize Fund
Established for Chair of Physical Education Helen Luffman RSC ’21 by her friend Virginia Harvey RSC ’35 and given to outstanding senior physical education students.

Nina Marinello Leadership Award in Nutrition Science Fund
Established in 2016 upon the retirement of Nutrition Science Chair Dr. Nina Marinello this fund provides an annual award to a student(s) who shows promise in the field of Nutrition Science and whose academic work is worthy of recognition.

Helen Riewerts Matthei RSC ’44 Graduate Nursing Research Award Fund
Established by Claudia Matthei Cavanagh RSC ’71 in memory of her mother, Helen Riewerts Matthei, to honor her commitment to the nursing field. It is awarded to Sage Graduate Schools nursing students to offset expenses incurred during research performed as part of the nursing program requirements.

Richard H. Mattox Prize Fund
Established in 1980 by the NYS Chapter of American Academy of Health Administration in honor of Professor Richard H. Mattox who established Sage’s program in Public Affairs. It is given to a graduate in political science who intends to enter government and public service.

McMorran Biology Award Fund
Established in 1974 by Ruth McMorran, wife of Trustee John Burch McMorran, and given for outstanding academic achievement in biology.

Donald and Denise Meservey Award Fund
Established in 1977 by Denise and Donald Meservey JCA ’72, who was a member of the Colonie Police Department, for outstanding students graduating from the criminal justice program at either RSC or SCA.

Edilberto B. Olimpo, Jr. JCA ’88 Fund
Established in 2014 by Julia Olimpo in memory of her son Edilberto Bautista Olimpo, Jr. who received his associate degree at Sage in graphic design and had a stellar career in the graphic design field. The fund is used to recognize a rising senior graphic design student who shows promise and whose academic work is worthy of special acknowledgement.

Dr. Virginia L. Radley Memorial Prize in English Fund
Established through a bequest from Dr. Virginia Radley for a graduating RSC senior in English who expects to pursue graduate study in literature, whose work is worthy of high honor and whose contributions have enhanced the study of literature for her classmates and teachers.

The Bruce Rainer Award in Theatre Fund
Established by Bruce Rainer’s friend, Meryl Swanson Ruckterstuhl RSC ’58, SGS ’97 for the woman who shows the most promise in the theatre department.

Returning Woman’s Prize Fund
Established and funded by the efforts of the returning women’s program at Sage through the sale of T-shirts and baked goods at SageFest. It is awarded to returning women who show great promise.

Susan Krauss Russell Prize Fund
Established in 1974 in memory of Susan Krauss Russell by her parents Mr. and Mrs. Irwin Krauss. Given to a student exhibiting high scholarship and professional contribution to the visual and performing arts department.

Glen and Nancy Slack Endowed Award in the Sciences Fund
Established in 2002 upon the retirement of Professor Nancy G. Slack by fellow faculty, friends and former students. Additional funding also provided by Drs. Glen and Nancy Slack. This award recognizes exemplary students who have completed at least their second year in biology, pre-medicine or biochemistry. This fund may also be used to support science department sponsored travel.

Dorothy Slocum RSC ’21 Sociology Award Fund
Established though a bequest in 2016 by the Estate of Dorothy Knepper RSC ’47 to be used to establish the Dorothy Slocum RSC ’21 Sociology Award Fund and the Gertrude Slocum Collins RSC ’20 Nutrition Award Fund in memory of her mother Gertrude, and her aunt Dorothy.

Douglas E. Stanley Criminal Justice Fund
Established in 1986 by Ray Stanley, head of security at Sage as an award with the balance being used for periodicals and supplies for the criminal justice department.

Stedman Award Fund
Established in 1984 by a gift from the estate of George W. Stedman who was a trustee from 1950-1981. This award is given to outstanding chemistry students.

Edna Sniffen Travis Award Fund
Established in 1959 by Trustee Winifred Leo Haag RSC ’23 in memory of classmate Edna Sniffen Travis for students in the Business Department.

UHY LLP Award Fund in Memory of Sidney and Michael Urbach Fund
Established in 1978 by UHY (formerly Urbach, Kahn & Werlin) in memory of Sidney Urbach, for accounting students who show the greatest promise for a career in public accounting.

Charles and Helen Upton Prize Fund
Established in 1997 for RSC upper class majors in history who achieve the highest average.

Usher Award in Fine Arts Fund
Established by Ann Usher McKay RSC ’42 for outstanding SCA Fine Arts students.

Grace I. Van Dervoort Memorial Award Fund
Established in 1980 by students, colleagues and friends of the late Grace Van Dervoort, a longtime professor at Russell Sage and chair of the chemistry department, for outstanding senior chemistry or biochemistry students.

Van Vleet Psychology Awards Fund (2 Awards)
Established in 1992 by Phyllis Van Vleet RSC ’34, it provides funds for the Phyllis Van Vleet Psychology award presented to junior or senior female psychology majors in recognition of outstanding contributions to the psychology program at RSC and the Students’ Award in Psychology for graduating senior psychology majors with the highest grade point average in psychology.

Linda Sahr Weingarten Memorial Award Fund
Established in 1987 by the RSC Class of 1976 in memory of Linda Sahr Weingarten ’76 to let women know it is okay to pursue their dreams. For seniors planning to study physical therapy or occupational therapy.

Eli Werlin Award Fund
Funded by RSC ’74 alumnae, Eileen Kilday and Joanne Howard, in memory of a former Sage Professor Eli Werlin for business students.

Donald E. Willetts Prize Fund
Established in 1987 by faculty member Donald Willetts for students in the education department showing promise in the field of secondary school teaching.

Olga Andruskiw Memorial Lecture Series Fund
Established in 2002 in memory of Dr. Andruskiw by her colleagues, students and friends. For an annual lecture in the field of nursing, and for student travel to present research, student activity which goes above or beyond normal coursework, outreach programs, and the acquisition of equipment, hardware, software, professional books, journals, etc.

Armenian Lecture Series Endowed Fund
Established by Lucille Gochigian Sarkissian SCA ’83 and Alice Jernazian Haig RSC ’41 for lectures, performances, books, videos, centered around Armenian culture.

Chapman Lecture Fund
Established in 1995 for the humanities by the Board of Trustees in honor of the induction of Sage’s seventh president, Dr. Sara Chapman.

Colonie Jewish Association Lecture Series Fund
Established in 2011 by the Colonie Jewish Association for the support of events designed to educate students and the community at large about Jewish history, culture, literature, music and art.

Hoffman Prize and Lecture Fund
Established in 1979 by Linda Rosenfield Hoffman RSC ’62 and her husband Peter to provide for sociology lectures.

Scrimshaw Distinguished Visiting Artist Fund
Established in 2013 by President Susan Scrimshaw to bring visiting artists to Sage.

Sherman David Spector Lecture Fund
Established in 1991 through the combined gifts of alumnae and friends of History Department Chair Dr. Spector, for a yearly lecture sponsored by the faculty member who holds the Sherman David Spector Professorship.

Van Dervoort Lecture Fund

Established by Edith McCrea RSC ’24 with the first recipient named in 1992 for a senior member of the faculty in fine arts.

Established by The Reverend Dr. Edith Grace Craig Reynolds through a bequest in her will. This fund is used for a professorship of religion, philosophy, sociology or anthropology.

Toros and Selma Gochigian Endowed Memorial Fund for the Study of International Law and Justice, Public Administration and Public Policy, and Reparations and Peace
Established in 2016 by Lucille Sarkissian. Its purpose is to enhance the educational and cultural experiences of our students as well as the members of our surrounding communities by providing programming to promote the study of international law and justice, public administration and public policy, and reparations and peace. This fund is designed to introduce an essential component of education in helping audiences consider perspectives other than their own, encouraging civil debate, broadening the basis for critical thought and promoting cultural understanding.

Established by the board of trustees with unrestricted money left to the college through the estate of Elmer Schacht. Currently used for doctoral programs primarily through teaching and research fellowships and for faculty and student research.

Lucile Shea Library Fund
Established in 2012 with proceeds from a multimillion dollar bequest which was used to fund the Troy campus library renovation with the remainder providing endowment support to the library in perpetuity.

Established in 1996 in memory of faculty member Chuk-Yin Lam-Erwin by her husband, Robert Erwin, fellow faculty members and friends. For undergraduate chemistry students at Russell Sage College to pay expenses for presenting a paper at a regional or national science meeting; or to fund any miscellaneous student activity which goes above or beyond normal coursework. May also be used to support outreach programs promoting science at Sage among pre-college students.

Established in 1984 by Miral Spinning in memory of her brother, Curtis Fred Spinning JCA ’79, for one male and one female art student from SCA each year.

Lisa Schieffelin RSC ’85 and Andrew Svarre Last Mile Scholarship Fund
Established in 2017 by Lisa Schieffelin RSC ’85 and Andrew Svarre to aid students who are in jeopardy of leaving the institution due to financial hardships.

Mary Theresa Scudder Scholarship Fund
Established in 1997 by Mary Trainer Crandall RSC ’50 in honor of Russell Sage College’s former Dean of Students for RSC undergraduates.

Josephine H. Seber Scholarship Fund
Established in 1972 from a bequest of Josephine H. Seber for graduates of Troy High School.

Ronnye Berg Shamam Scholarship Fund
Established in 2011 by Trustee Ronnye Berg Shamam RSC ’64 for education-related expenses including tuition and campus residency expenses for one incoming female freshman at RSC who is a current and minimum five year resident of Troy.

Night School Endowment Fund
Established in 1997 anonymously for students attending Sage’s evening division.

Fredericka Voorhaar Slingerland RSC ’36 Scholarship Fund
Established in 2004 by the board upon the death of Fredericka “Freddie” Slingerland, for commuter students.

Sonders Family Scholarship Fund
Established in 2015 by Susan Lipnitzky Sonders. It is awarded to female RSC students who are worthy and needy, first preference to students from Brooklyn, New York; and second preference to students from any of the five boroughs of New York; and third preference students from New York; and, if no student meets the above geographic criteria to any female student.

Evelyn Grant Stearns Scholarship Fund
Established through a bequest from Evelyn Grant Stearns RSC ’25 for general unrestricted scholarships.

Evelyn Donaldson Steinkirchner Scholarship Fund
Established in 2016 as part of the Centennial Campaign to provide scholarship funds to first-generation RSC students.

Aggie Stillman Memorial Scholarship Fund
Established in 2009 with a gift from Aggie’s brother, Frank Stillman, and from friends and colleagues in memory of Agnes “Aggie” Stillman for Russell Sage College students who maintain a GPA of 3.0 or above.

Solon E. Summerfield Foundation Scholarship Fund
Established in 1995 by the Solon E. Summerfield Foundation, for students who are blind or visually impaired who demonstrate financial need and a strong academic record.

Dawn M. Sweeney, MD RSC ’85 Scholarship Fund
Established in 2010 by Dawn M. Sweeney, M.D. RSC ’85, for students who are pursuing a pre-medical degree at Sage.

Helen Bryant Sweet Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund
Established in 2016 by Carol Sweet Morse RSC ’66 in memory of her mother, to provide scholarship aid to two business students per year.

Saratoga, Warren and Washington Counties Endowed Scholarship Fund
Established in 2015 by George and Lucienne Walker RSC ’71, to assist RSC students from Saratoga, Warren and Washington Counties.

Isabelle Wagner Taylor Scholarship Fund
Established in 1997 in memory of faculty member Isabelle Wagner Taylor by her husband Wallace and by family and friends, for psychology students.

Helen Upton Memorial Scholarship Fund
Established in 1993 in memory of Helen Upton for returning woman student at RSC.

Grace I. Van Dervoort Memorial Scholarship Fund
Established in 1969 in honor of Grace Van Dervoort’s teaching career at RSC with subsequent additions in 1980 by students, colleagues and friends of the late chair of the chemistry department for a chemistry award, scholarships, and lectures.

Major Helen A. Vartigian, USA Ret., and Lieutenant Colonel Frances M. Liberty, USA Ret., Scholarship Fund
Established in 2009 by the Tri-County Council of Vietnam Era Veterans in conjunction with the Foundation of NYS Nurses for U.S. veterans and their children pursuing degrees in nursing, physical therapy or occupational therapy.

Verizon Scholarship for Communications Fund
Established in 1993 by the New York Telephone Co. for education major from a historically underrepresented group.

Verizon Minorities in Education Scholarship Fund
Established in 1992 by the New York Telephone Co. for non-traditional students studying communication arts.

Vice Presidential Merit Scholarship Fund
Established in 2010 to honor retiring Vice Presidents at Sage, for students who didn’t initially qualify for a merit-based scholarship but whose academic efforts once at Sage have reached a merit level.

Martin and Sara Jane Benson Victor RSC ’58 Endowed Scholarship Fund
Established in 2014 by Martin and Sara Jane Benson Victor RSC ’58 to provide scholarship funds to students from the Oakwood Friends School in Poughkeepsie, NY, as well as to any students attending RSC.

Anne Marie Kopecky Vidaver Scholarship Fund
Established in 2010 by Anne Marie Kopecky Vidaver, RSC ’60 for RSC students who plan to attend graduate school in a non-medical area. Preference given to a student who plans to go into a high-risk or unconventional area of research dealing with plants or microorganisms.

Marjorie Whitbeck Scholarship Fund
Established through a bequest from the estate of Mabelle L. Moses in memory of her former student, Marjorie Whitbeck, for a graduate or undergraduate student studying to do research work in economics.

Wilhelm Scholarship Fund
Established in 1990 by Muriel Wilhelm RSC ’43, for Kellas Scholars.

Richard T. and Ada Pangburn Youngs Scholarship Fund
Established in 1996 by Ada Pangburn Youngs RSC ’46 for undergraduate nursing students who demonstrate financial need.
