Established in 1985 by Nursing Department Chair, Dr. Olga Andruskiw from money she received upon her retirement. The award is presented to a senior nursing student who is a leader and a scholar and is qualified to study on a graduate level.

Established by the American Society of Women Accountants, this award is presented to the graduating woman showing the most promise in accounting.

Bellevue Hospital Nursing Achievement Award Fund

The award is presented to nursing students who demonstrate academic and personal excellence, interest in women’s health, promise of contributing to health-related professions, and interest in working cooperatively.

Given annually since 1966 and endowed by the Class of 1965 donors in 1993 for up two students a year, in any major, who have completed at least two courses in chemistry at or above the 200 level and who shows excellence in their work.

Named for former faculty member Dr. Virginia Earles and awarded to graduate nursing students for research which contributes to advancing the science of nursing.
Tara M. Espinosa, RSC ’01, SGS ’02 Memorial Award for Outstanding Graduate in Occupational Therapy Fund
Established in 2004 by Ruth G. Espinosa-Barone in loving memory of her daughter Tara RSC ’01, SGS ’02 who passed away from EDS, a rare disease. The award is given annually to an occupational therapy student based on GPA, investment in the occupational therapy program and occupational therapy field, initiatives and enthusiasm displayed, and class leadership.
Evans Award for Leadership Fund
Awarded annually by Trustee Edwin C. Evans and then his wife, Renette Evans, the award was endowed in 2000 for a sophomore showing leadership qualities.

Established by Ann E. Gieschen, widow of Fine Arts Department Chair Martin J. Gieschen, for the purchase of books and art supplies for first-year or second-year art students at SCA who demonstrate financial need and dedication to his/her work.
Louis H. Gross Award in Physical Therapy Fund
Established by Louis H. Gross for an outstanding Sage senior who has been accepted into Sage’s graduate Physical Therapy program.

Established in 2012 by Ann Colton Gut RSC ’50 to provide professional development funds to faculty in the Chemistry and Biochemistry departments.
Kathleen Harrington Memorial Award Fund
Established by John Curran and his son Mark in memory of his cousin Kathleen Harrington RSC ’70 who died of cancer in 1992. Kathleen was a pioneer in many ways and, having developed Hodgkin’s disease while at college, allowed herself to be a guinea pig for new treatments for the disease. It is awarded to undergraduate students intending to complete graduate studies in physical therapy, with preference to students from Troy or Rensselaer County who demonstrate commitment to health and wellness, a love of running, a strong motivation for professional practice in the area of work hardening, sports medicine or physical therapy practice in acute care settings.
Arnold S. Harris Award Fund
Established in 1990 by the Department of Political Science and Public Administration in memory of faculty member Arnold S. Harris for his commitment to Sage students and his outstanding service to Troy. It is awarded to either political science or public administration majors who show a particular interest in state or local government.
Frances P. Healy Award Fund
Established in 1993 by former Sage Graduate Schools Dean Connie Frazer to honor Professor Emerita Frances P. Healy who taught education at Sage from 1969 through 1988. Awarded to elementary education students who show the greatest progress in personal maturity, academic accomplishment, or ability to apply theory to practice in an early childhood or elementary school setting.

Established in 1984 by Stephen K. Wanamaker, Esq., P.E., in memory of June Joyce Herron RSC ’52 whom he dated while he was attending RPI and is for a senior who achieves excellence in English.
Gertrude E. Hodgman Prize Fund
Established in 1978 by former students of Gertrude E. Hodgman, former director of the School of Nursing for senior nursing students who demonstrate active involvement in college or community affairs and display professional growth.
Hoffman Prize and Lecture Fund
Established in 1979 by Linda Rosenfield Hoffman RSC ’62 and her husband Peter to provide an award in sociology, an award in sociology for pre-social work, and a lecture series.
M. Grace Jorgensen Nursing Achievement Award Fund
Established in 1987 by Grace Jorgensen RSC ’50 in memory of her mother M. Grace Jorgensen, to support grants to outstanding nursing students for travel to support learning, academic programs, acquisition of learning materials or equipment and support for living expenses incurred during the period of the grant.

Helen Riewerts Matthei RSC ’44 Graduate Nursing Research Award Fund
Established by Claudia Matthei Cavanagh RSC ’71 in memory of her mother, Helen Riewerts Matthei, to honor her commitment to the nursing field. It is awarded to Sage Graduate Schools nursing students to offset expenses incurred during research performed as part of the nursing program requirements.
Richard H. Mattox Prize Fund
Established in 1980 by the NYS Chapter of American Academy of Health Administration in honor of Professor Richard H. Mattox who established Sage’s program in Public Affairs. It is given to a graduate in political science who intends to enter government and public service.
McMorran Biology Award Fund
Established in 1974 by Ruth McMorran, wife of Trustee John Burch McMorran, and given for outstanding academic achievement in biology.
Donald and Denise Meservey Award Fund
Established in 1977 by Denise and Donald Meservey JCA ’72, who was a member of the Colonie Police Department, for outstanding students graduating from the criminal justice program at either RSC or SCA.
Edilberto B. Olimpo, Jr. JCA ’88 Fund
Established in 2014 by Julia Olimpo in memory of her son Edilberto Bautista Olimpo, Jr. who received his associate degree at Sage in graphic design and had a stellar career in the graphic design field. The fund is used to recognize a rising senior graphic design student who shows promise and whose academic work is worthy of special acknowledgement.

Returning Woman’s Prize Fund
Established and funded by the efforts of the returning women’s program at Sage through the sale of T-shirts and baked goods at SageFest. It is awarded to returning women who show great promise.
Susan Krauss Russell Prize Fund
Established in 1974 in memory of Susan Krauss Russell by her parents Mr. and Mrs. Irwin Krauss. Given to a student exhibiting high scholarship and professional contribution to the visual and performing arts department.
Glen and Nancy Slack Endowed Award in the Sciences Fund
Established in 2002 upon the retirement of Professor Nancy G. Slack by fellow faculty, friends and former students. Additional funding also provided by Drs. Glen and Nancy Slack. This award recognizes exemplary students who have completed at least their second year in biology, pre-medicine or biochemistry. This fund may also be used to support science department sponsored travel.

Established in 2016 by Renaissance Corporation of Albany to support the social, emotional and economic needs of students. It is used for many purposes including, but not limited to, scholarships for minority, underrepresented, or first-generation students; advising and counseling services; educational supplies and books; and general student support services.

Established in 1970 upon a suggestion by John T. Beemer on behalf of his daughter, Pamela Beemer Abeling RSC ’63, by a gift from the Dorothy H. and Lewis Rosenstiel Foundation in memory of Dorothy for physical education.
Elmer C. Schacht Memorial Fund for Doctoral Fellowships
Established by the board of trustees with unrestricted money left to the college through the estate of Elmer Schacht. Currently used for doctoral programs primarily through teaching and research fellowships and for faculty and student research.
Lucile Shea Library Fund
Established in 2012 with proceeds from a multimillion dollar bequest which was used to fund the Troy campus library renovation with the remainder providing endowment support to the library in perpetuity.
Patricia Timpano Sparrell RSC ’78 Service Learning Program Endowed Fund
Established in 2016 by Duncan and Patricia Timpano Sparrell RSC ’78 in support of the Service Learning program at Sage.
Jane Haight Wells Spirituality Center
Funded in 2002 in loving memory of Jane Haight Wells RSC ’64, this restricted fund is used for the Jane Haight Wells Spirituality Center programming.
Rosalind M. Wang Fund for Nursing
Established in 2012 by former professor Rosalind Wang in honor of the 90th year of nursing at Sage, for nursing department programmatic purposes.
Helen C. Wheeler Fund
Established in 1997 by the Will K. Weinstein Trust Philanthropic Fund and Sage Professor Susan Wheeler Roy in memory of her mother, Helen C. Wheeler for the Psychology department.
Broughton Graduate Fellowship Fund
Established in 1980 by William G. Broughton in honor of his father and mother, Henry Primm Broughton and Jane Tinkham Broughton, for the advanced study in any field with a requirement of a public lecture or symposium to summarize the research.
Doris Adams Ferguson RSC ’53 Memorial Fund for Sociology
Established in 2003 by James T. Ferguson, Sr., to honor his wife’s memory, for at least one student annually in sociology or criminal justice. It provides funds during the junior or senior year for travel, field study, baccalaureate thesis, senior project, internship or creative, advanced study, field work or research.
Katherine Johnson Memorial Travel Fund
Established in 2007 through a bequest by Katherine Disbrow Johnson RSC ’29 for travel abroad.
Marjory Keenan Professional Leadership Award Fund
Established upon the retirement of faculty member Marjory Keenan for nursing students to travel to foster their goals.
Chuk-Yin Lam-Erwin Fund
Established in 1996 in memory of faculty member Chuk-Yin Lam-Erwin by her husband, Robert Erwin, fellow faculty members and friends. For undergraduate chemistry students at Russell Sage College to pay expenses for presenting a paper at a regional or national science meeting; or to fund any miscellaneous student activity which goes above or beyond normal coursework. May also be used to support outreach programs promoting science at Sage among pre-college students.
Nancy Parker Neumann Memorial Scholarship Fund
Established in 2005 in Nancy’s memory by her family and friends for RSC students who attend the Border Witness Program through the New York State Labor Coalition or a similar program.
Louis and Hortense Rubin Community Fellows Fund
Established in 1990 by Louis Rubin in memory of his late wife Hortense Rubin for a cooperative venture among the faculty of Sage, RPI, HVCC, Emma Willard and participating agencies of Rensselaer County administered by Sage. It provides for faculty to strengthen the participating agencies in the region, as well as for part-time consulting.
Scrimshaw Stern Student Travel Fund
Established in honor of the inauguration of The Sage Colleges’ ninth president, Susan C. Scrimshaw, Ph.D., for students to present at national or international conferences or when traveling to do research or service either domestically or internationally.

Established in 1984 in memory of Professor Marjorie Semerad by many former students and friends for travel for early career visual arts and performing arts faculty members with five years or less at Sage.

Established in 1972 from a bequest of Josephine H. Seber for graduates of Troy High School.
Ronnye Berg Shamam Scholarship Fund
Established in 2011 by Trustee Ronnye Berg Shamam RSC ’64 for education-related expenses including tuition and campus residency expenses for one incoming female freshman at RSC who is a current and minimum five year resident of Troy.
Night School Endowment Fund
Established in 1997 anonymously for students attending Sage’s evening division.
Fredericka Voorhaar Slingerland RSC ’36 Scholarship Fund
Established in 2004 by the board upon the death of Fredericka “Freddie” Slingerland, for commuter students.
Sonders Family Scholarship Fund
Established in 2015 by Susan Lipnitzky Sonders. It is awarded to female RSC students who are worthy and needy, first preference to students from Brooklyn, New York; and second preference to students from any of the five boroughs of New York; and third preference students from New York; and, if no student meets the above geographic criteria to any female student.

Established through a bequest from Evelyn Grant Stearns RSC ’25 for general unrestricted scholarships.

Established in 1995 by the Solon E. Summerfield Foundation, for students who are blind or visually impaired who demonstrate financial need and a strong academic record.

Established in 1969 in honor of Grace Van Dervoort’s teaching career at RSC with subsequent additions in 1980 by students, colleagues and friends of the late chair of the chemistry department for a chemistry award, scholarships, and lectures.

Established in 2009 by the Tri-County Council of Vietnam Era Veterans in conjunction with the Foundation of NYS Nurses for U.S. veterans and their children pursuing degrees in nursing, physical therapy or occupational therapy.

Vice Presidential Merit Scholarship Fund
Established in 2010 to honor retiring Vice Presidents at Sage, for students who didn’t initially qualify for a merit-based scholarship but whose academic efforts once at Sage have reached a merit level.

Established in 2014 by Martin and Sara Jane Benson Victor RSC ’58 to provide scholarship funds to students from the Oakwood Friends School in Poughkeepsie, NY, as well as to any students attending RSC.
Anne Marie Kopecky Vidaver Scholarship Fund
Established in 2010 by Anne Marie Kopecky Vidaver, RSC ’60 for RSC students who plan to attend graduate school in a non-medical area. Preference given to a student who plans to go into a high-risk or unconventional area of research dealing with plants or microorganisms.
