“Global Peace: The European Way?” Lecture and Peace Pole Dedication are Open to the Public

The Women’s Institute at Russell Sage College will host a series of activities focused on Global Peace and Social Activism from Sept. 20-21. The events have been planned to coincide with the United Nations’ International Day of Peace on Sept. 21.

Events begin on Sept. 20 at 6 p.m. with a lecture by Federiga Bindi, Ph.D., director of the Foreign Policy Initiative at the Institute for Women’s Policy Research and Women’s Institute affiliate scholar.

The public is invited to attend Bindi’s “Global Peace: The European Way?” lecture, either in person at Bush Memorial Center on Sage’s Troy campus or online.

All visitors to Russell Sage College are required to follow current mask guidelines, based on recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Guests over 12 must provide documentation of full vaccination status.

The public is also invited to Sage’s Troy campus on Sept. 21 at 1 p.m., as The Women’s Institute dedicates a Peace Pole in McKinstry Courtyard.

Peace Poles, found around the world, bear the message “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in  several languages. Sage’s newest Peace Pole — its second — features Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, Spanish, Braille, Hebrew and Mohawk.

The Women’s Institute will host additional events for members of the Russell Sage College community, including a presentation by Diya Abdo, founder of Every Campus A Refuge.

ECAR is a nonprofit that mobilizes colleges to make campus resources available to a refugee family. The Women’s Institute recently announced a partnership with the U.S. Committee for Refugee and Immigrants’ Albany field office and is preparing for a potential collaboration with Every Campus A Refuge.
