Ceremonies Will Be Held Outdoors,
Graduates Will Be Allowed Two Guests

Russell Sage College has made changes to its May 11 and 12 commencement ceremonies in response to the New York state guidelines updated on April 12, 2021. 

Sage now plans to hold a series of small, outdoor ceremonies and to allow each graduating student to have two guests present. Graduates will also have an opportunity to walk across the stage. 

The college initially planned indoor ceremonies, with no guests and graduates remaining seated. 

“This year is like no other, and this ceremony will reflect the changing conditions we have faced,” said Sage President Chris Ames. “It will be different than our usual large gathering, but will honor the wishes of our graduates to be able to walk across the stage in the presence of their classmates and closest family and friends.” 

One-hour ceremonies with fewer than 100 students will be held on the campus quad on Sage’s Albany campus.  

Sage will follow all public health guidance to ensure safe events.

Students who would have been eligible to participate in the May 2020 and May 2021 commencement ceremonies have received updated invitations with detailed registration information. 

All of the ceremonies will be livestreamed.
