Maureen Stapleton Scholarship Honors Memory of Troy-Born, Award-Winning Actress and Supports Housing for Students Who Begin Theatre Career at Troy College 

Russell Sage College is accepting applications for its Maureen Stapleton Scholarship.

This $2,500 scholarship supports housing on Russell Sage College’s Troy, New York, campus for students majoring in Theatre or Musical Theatre and who plan careers in performance, stage management, technical theatre, scenic design or arts administration. Scholarship recipients are expected to maintain a 3.0 programmatic GPA and to be active in Theatre Institute at Sage productions.

The Maureen Stapleton Scholarship is renewable for four years. First-year college students and transfer students may apply at https://theatre.sage.edu/about/the-maureen-stapleton-scholarship. The application deadline is April 15, 2021.

About Maureen Stapleton

Maureen Stapleton was born in Troy, New York, and became a Tony, Emmy and Academy award-winning actress. While achieving success in New York City and Hollywood, she returned to Troy often. Sage and Associate Professor of Theatre David Baecker have been involved in several activities to promote Stapleton’s work and connections to Troy, including “A Neighborhood Salute to Maureen Stapleton,” a 10-month series of events in 2012-2013.
