Biology Professor Featured on NEWS10 for Research and Work to Promote Awareness of Young Onset Parkinson’s Disease 

Kristi LaMonica, Ph.D., associate professor of biology at Russell Sage College, was recently featured on ABC affiliate WTEN-News10, as part of its Remarkable Women series, honoring four local women who influence public policy, social progress, and quality of life in Albany, New York, and nationally. 

LaMonica was featured for her efforts to bring attention to Young Onset Parkinson’s Disease. She was diagnosed with YOPD at age 41.

News10 anchor Lydia Kulbidia joined LaMonica at an Adult Neuromuscular Physical Therapy Lab on RSC’s Troy campus. LaMonica regularly speaks with PT, Occupational Therapy, and Health Psychology classes at Sage, and organizes registration for OT and PT students who wish to earn LSVT-Big certification (LSVT-Big is a specialized therapy for Parkinson’s that works on large amplitude movements.) 

The news segment also highlighted LaMonica’s presentation at the World Parkinson’s Congress in Barcelona, which covered the challenges women with YOPD face that men do not; her work with the global advocacy network PD Avengers; and the book In Her Shoes, which she helped write.
