About Julia Gerringer
Julia Gerringer earned her bachelor’s in Biology from Russell Sage College in May 2023 and started Touro College of Dental Medicine in July.
“The first thing you always look at is someone’s smile,” she said. “I want to help people find their smile and be confident.”
Julia — a student-athlete on the women’s soccer and women’s track teams — was attracted to Sage for its athletics program and small class sizes.
“There seemed like there would be more opportunities to ask questions or find support at Sage than at a bigger school,” she said.
Her instincts paid off.
Thanks to her rigorous classes — and access to extra help and tutoring outside of classes — Julia felt prepared and confident when she took the Dental Admission Test.
She received one-on-one assistance with her dental school applications from Director of Academic Support Tracy Egan-Lasek. “She went above and beyond, she proofread all of my work,” said Julia. “She went through all of my personal statements with me, and asked me, is this what you’re meaning to say, or is it this?”
“I still can’t believe the help I got,” Julia continued, adding that some dental school classmates paid hundreds of dollars for the kind of application assistance she received as a Sage student.
In her first semester of dental school she found herself regularly returning to notes from Sage classes, especially materials from Cell and Molecular Biology with Stacie Kutz, Ph.D
And she’s still in touch with several professors who are references for her application to the Health Professions Scholarship Program, for prospective military dentists.
“Still having those contacts from Sage help me has been incredible,” said Julia. “Sage is such a wonderful school to get your Pre-Med education for medical school, dental school, or vet school. I couldn’t have asked for a better school to help me out and encourage me to go do amazing things.”
