Feb. 3 Conference is Free and Open to all Interested in Feminist and Gender Studies

Russell Sage College faculty members, students and recent graduates will present their original research at the Capital District Feminist Studies Consortium 2023 conference.

The conference will be held on Friday, Feb. 3 at Albany College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences, 84 Holland Avenue in Albany. Opening remarks begin at 9 a.m. (In the event of inclement weather, the conference will be held on Feb 10.)

The Capital District Feminist Studies Consortium hosts its annual conference to advance interdisciplinary dialogue and collaboration among the scholars, teachers and students in and around Albany, New York, who are interested in feminist and gender studies 

Professor of Sociology and Faculty Director of The Women’s Institute at Russell Sage College Michelle Napierski-Prancl, Ph.D., is the coordinator of the consortium. 

The following Sage faculty and students will present research at the 2023 conference: 

— Associate Professor of Criminal Justice, Law & Behavioral Science Janel Leone, Ph.D., and Associate Professor of Public Health Dayna Maniccia, DrPH, will present “Psychological, Social and Physical Benefits of a Structured Running Program for Intimate Partner Violence Survivors: A Pre-Test-Post-Test Evaluation.” 

— Associate Professor of Physical Therapy James R Brennan, Ph.D., will present “Variable Temporalities Women Chronic Pain Time Travelers.”

— Professor of History Harvey Strum, Ph.D., will present “Jewish Women’s Organizations of the Capital District.”

Psychology major Noora Ahmed ’22 and Sociology majors Hayden Crandall ’22 and Angel Palmatier ’23 will present posters based on their capstone research projects.

 — Sociology majors TaiLynn DeCicco ’23 and Laura Zinzow ’23 will present posters about their travel and research projects, conducted with support from the Doris Adams Ferguson ’53 Memorial Fellowship for Sociology.
