Student Achievements
Esther Barkey is a Russell Sage student who studied abroad in Sevilla, Spain. Her study abroad experience was with the Center for Cross Cultural Studies from August 2006- January 2007. Esther studied in classes such as: The Franco Era, Intensive Intermediate Spanish, Intro. to Spanish Civilization, Intro. to Spain and the European Union, Cultural Realities of Spain, and Regional Folk Dance. The program also included trips to several surrounding cities, and many students were also able to travel within Europe on the weekends. Her comments: "I had a very positive experience. Sevilla is a wonderful city."
Cecelia Pompeii is also a Russell Sage student who has studied abroad. Cecelia studied in Milan, Italy from January 2007- June 2007, taking classes such as: Italian Language, Italian History, Art and Design Production, and Photography. While abroad she had the oppertunity to travel to several cities in Italy including: Venice, Florence, Pisa, Rome, Pompeii, Grancona, and Bologna. Cecelia also traveled through Europe, visiting Barcelona, Paris, Monaco, Nice, Athens, Naxos-greek island, Dublin, and London. When asked about her experience abroad Cecelia commented, "I learned so much while living in another countryand am grateful I could have the experience. The situations you find yourself in when getting accustomed to a new culture/language can sometimes be very uncomfortable, but this is where the most learning happens. I would recommend studying abroad to anyone and everyone!"
Emily Williams was a public affairs major on the Albany campus. During her time at Russell Sage she completed two internships with the Mayor's Office in Utica. She also completed a 15 credit internship with the NYS Assembly in the Spring of 2008 and later graduated as co-valedictorian at the May 2008 graduation ceremony. Emily is currently working for the state legislature as a result of a job offer at the completion of her internship. She works in the office of the Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver as a Research and Communications Associate. She is currently doing work on campaigning in competitive districts.
Mark Vogel and Margarita Perez have also completed 15-credit internships with the NYS Assembly. Mark is a Public Affairs major who will graduate in December 2008. Margarita is enrolled in the Law and Society program and completed her internship in the Spring of 2008.
Congratulations to the three students who were accepted into 15 credit internships at the legislature for the spring semester! Elijah Fagan-Solis, Law and Society,who will work for the Assembly. The Senate accepted Lauren Eson, day student in Public Affairs, and Andrew Strum, Social Studies in SAW.
