"Professor Rolf Ahlers read the paper The Virtuous Athlete. Jacobis Leap and Hegels Dialectic on April 6, 2009, in the German Idealism section of the American Philosophers Association in Vancouver, BC, Canada. The paper argues that Jacobis salto mortale is far from being a death leap into religious irrationalism. This is the dominant and near universal Jacobi interpretation. The paper argues that far from being eccentric literary alchemy without deeper meaning, it reaches back deep into the western history of particularly negative philosophy. It is also central to Hegels dialectic. Particularly this latter point was vigorously debated at the meeting."
